MAME vs. MAME_SL ?

John Simon

Recommended Posts

I see duplicate listings in the MAME Selection page of the Setup Wizard.  I am assuming SL stands for Software List, but beyond that not sure how they differed.  Is it purely the default paths chosen in the Emulator Setup page?  (e.g. /MAME/coleco vs. [PATH_ROMS]\[SYS_GAMEEXNAME])

As I understand it,  you must set up the MAME emulator for each respective "system" you wish to emulate, then configure it accordingly.  Basically  you will be pointing at MAME numerous times and changing the path for each system.

The software list items follow almost the same rules as CHDs: put them in a folder named for the system inside your ROM folder (or any folder that's in your ROM path). And (unlike CHDs) keep them zipped!

ie

MAME for arcade

MAME for CHD's

MAME for SL with each system configured as a separate entity

and so on....
