PinballX, Servostik, LEDBlinky, Mame...

Hey guys, I recently installed a Servostik. It works great using the Joytray software which you need to use the F4 F8 to switch to ether 4 way or 8 way.

I would like it to switch automatically when the games are selected in Pinballx so I installed LEDBlinky. I was told by the developer of LEDBlinky (Great Guy!) that I needed to have Mame in the address where Pinballx calls on Mame games.

I went into Pinballx settings where you can assign "Other Systems" settings. The current folder is called Arcade. I switched it to Arcade/Mame and put the xml file that was currently residing in the Arcade folder into the new Mame Folder.

If I go into game manager all the Mame games are listed but the wheel art wasn't showing. I went into the media folder and copied all the files into the new Arcade/Mame folder and the wheel art is now present.

The problem is the games will not load when launching Pinballx. So something else needs to be updated and I don't know what that is?

I need to know when you add a game in Pinballx, what files are effected/created?

I'm pretty sure if go and delete the old xml file and add all the games in the new Arcade/Mame folder it would probably work, but that would be a huge job.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

Thank you!!!!

I don't know if you or anyone else knows this but you can install GameEx or GameEx Arcade setup MAME with the integrated support feature, launch GameEx after being properly configured and select the option to Update List. This process will run for quite a bit, but, once finished, produces in the  DATA folder a folder called PinballX that contains several MAME.XML files that you may use depending on the MAME screen orientation. Sounds like a bit of work, but once you get it setup and working, cuts the work in half for PinballX MAME integration.

Thank you very much for your reply Draco! Not sure how I would use this to help what I'm trying to do?

Hope I didn't come off wrong, I was honestly asking how this could help me as I'm not sure what you are saying I should do.

I guess the problem is I don't know what Gamex is and I'm posting in the wrong area. I just searched for Pinballx and found this area. Thanks.

You mentioned in tbe OP about creating the necessary xml files. Not knowing if you used either version of GameEx or not, the info was offered as an alternative means for creating the xml for use in PinballX based upon your MAME version and working ROMs.

Can you please attach copies of your pinballx.ini and log.txt files for review? Will need to see the log file after attempting to launch a MAME game.

Ok thanks a lot Draco! I will get the log file uploaded tomorrow. I looked for the Pinballx.ini and can't find it anywhere. I did a search for it as well.

Great info at that link thanks!

What's happening is when I change the path from Arcade to Arcade/mame it's not loading the games. When I name it back to arcade it works perfect. I did move the xml file into the new Mame folder and named the file Mame.xml

The first log photo shows that the Arcade system is being loaded. The second one is of the log file when the path has been changed to Arcade/mame

Attaching the files is better than copy & paste if the recipient is using a smartphone to respond... lots of sore thumb work scrolling! My guess is that you are using a special character that the program does not like. It would probably behave just fine if the folder were named Arcade-MAME or Arcade_MAME instead. / and \ generally are used by the OS and programs to denote a sublevel in a folder path.

Ok Draco I will give it a try. And i couldn't figure out how to attach the file using the taptalk app, when clicking the attachment link it kept taking me to my photos with no option to go anywhere else.

Should have just opened up safari but didn't think of that till now.

I will let you know if it works.

I changed the path to arcade-mame and it created the folder in the database I put the xml file in there and named it Arcade-Mame.xml among other things such as arcade.xml and nothing works.

When I look at the log it doesn't show anything loading for the Mame games like it does when the path is just named arcade.

It must be something else when you first activate these games in the game manager, it must make some kind of registry entry or something?

You are the man Draco!!! I decided to give Arcade_mame a try instead of Arcade-Mame and it worked!!!! Just had to copy and paste the media files into the new folder that was created in the media folder.

Thank you for all your help!!! Now on to getting the Servostik working!

Glad you got it all sorted! You did the hard work, now enjoy!

Another thing you must do if you haven't already is pony-up for a membership to EmuMovies. I am using the MAME HyperSpin Themed Videos (4x3) (HD) by CriticalCid for my MAME backglass videos and MAME Upscaled PinCab Vids buy Tom for the playfield videos and the look is pretty cool.
