Games001
Hi all. I recently downloaded the latest GameEx files and MAMEv185b(32bit) to rom my v185 RomSet in a new arcade build. The three primary issues I am having are: 1. Video Snaps will not play, only Still Snaps show up on Rom List. The directories are correct, unless I oopsed, but no go. 2. MAME Update List will run up to Reading List.dat (25%) then hangs.. for hours, without completing. 3. Some MAME roms (i.e. Victory Road - Ikari Warriors II) will run just fine if I load MAMEv185b (and runs fine in my older MAMEUI32v175 version), but not if I run it through GameEx. GameEX running will show the rom and still snap but when trying to run the game I get a 2 seconds black screen then get dropped right back to the 'Play this game' option in the main menu. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. DazzleHP
Hey, It's clear your rig is capable, the version you are running is not. It's so old i would uninstall and download again. GameEx has evolved so far since your version (which includes the latest MAME compatibilities) that i think you'll be mind-blown on what is on offer now
Games001
I guess the install of the latest GameEX version I downloaded the other day just did not take? ;P I will try that direction and see what goes. TY. UPDATE: The newer install of GameEX seems to have cleared up many of the issues first noted above. Not sure why my machine did not install the updated version correctly, but we're almost up and running. TY.
tthurman
Make sure you have the LAV filters installed, here's a link in case you don't have them. The MAME binary should work fine, but I recommend compiling your own version using the source code, and recommend doing so with headkaze's excellent Mame Compiler 64. Games001
Ahh, the horrors of compiling are at an end it seems. I recall having major pains doing so on my first cabinet back in 2003. I will do so now. TY.
tthurman
FWIW you don't have to compile your own, but if you do MC64 takes the pain out of it. If you do use it, I recommend you let it download the files, but afterwards go in and replace any that aren't current. headkaze has to change the source download manually, so there are times it will pull down a release that isn't the most current due to the rapid release schedule the devs have adopted. There are times when downloading the latest GameEx release, and just installing it over itself if the easiest solution. My guess is the LAV filters may resolve your remaining issue. Games001
Is there really any strong selling point for a compile? The program Headkaze has created is great, though I have no clue what file folders are to be chosen at some points (the install info does not click for me for some reason and I get errors on Go!) and just wondering if this whole step is all that important. Draco1962
Hi score saves for those games that support them, removing the nag screens, direct draw, just to name a few that come to mind.
Games001
Then it looks like I need to find a good install guide, or someone who knows the ropes. The basic readme install I followed to the letter and got errors on the compile go.
Draco1962
I recommend reporting any issues you run into using the MAME Compiler in this thread. That is the best place to get Headkaze's attention for any compiler issues.

DazzleHP
I personally never got on with the compiler, even though a lot of people swear by it. I always do a manual compile, and my success is very high. Also, when it DOESN'T work you are forced to deconstruct the code, looking for reasons WHY it went wrong, and rather than blaming someone else for your shortcomings, you are forced to look at it yourself and your own practices. Often this results in admitting that you, yourself were wrong. It's a hard thing to admit, but often is the truth. Many people won't accept this though and will blame devs, engineers... Anything to take the blame off of their own shortcomings. Surely it it is time though, that we praise these people, and give them the recognition they deserve. Coz without them you know where we would be... nowhere.
