Honestly, Linux is a beast to learn if you've grown up with Windows like I have.  Aside from people trying to make it easier with pre-made setups, menus, etc, you sill have to spend quite a lot of time in the terminal screens (think DOS).  Luckily, the internet makes it somewhat easier to find what you need, because there's always somebody out there like you who had no idea what they were doing and asked, and somebody was nice enough to answer!  The other nice thing, if you're going RetroPie, is their forum is full of nice people like here at GameEx with people who will help you do whatever you're trying to do (if it's possible that is).

The only thing I'm hoping will come out soon is a Visual Pinball port, or some open-source creation that can use their created tables.  That'd be the icing on the cake.  That, or a Linux (ARM) compiled version of GameEx.  :)
