[RESOLVED] How do I get Arcade media from PinballX Game Manager?

I have a paid sub to access the FTP site and while I can easily get all the Pinball table media I need (edit: via the import button), it fails to download anything for my MAME roms despite the rom name(s) matching the media found on the FTP site exactly. Is there another tool or trick to get the media I need via the FTP site for MAME games without having to download each piece of media one by one?

I don't know. I don't use Game Manager. I prefer to collect and generate my own media manually from a number of pinball-related websites rather than rely only on what is in the FTP.

You can access the FTP with an FTP client or Windows Explorer and copy and paste multiple files into your media folders. Assuming your database is structured using the rom set name as your game name tag then getting things functional for a MAME system within PinballX should be pretty quick and easy.

This sounds like a massive undertaking for non-pinball games. For Pinball media the online import tool works for the most part and I just fill in the blanks with a few files I find online. But for hundreds of MAME games manually searching for any of the media (because the online import tool doesn't seem to find ANY MAME media despite a lot of MAME media matching my rom names is found on the FTP site). is both a lot of work in an era of automation and frankly extremely antiquated when programs like LaunchBox do it well. LaunchBox does not support vertical cabinets and one user's custom theme doesn't not work for multiple screen vertical cabs. Problem is it seems like there are very few front-ends that correctly support vertical cabinets (I have the VPCab Vertigo, which gets PinballX license included) and DMDs.

Where am I supposed to get support for a product I paid for if no one answers here? Is there a support email I'm supposed to use?

Just so you are aware, PinballX is a free product. Your paid subscription is for additional access to FTP,  the online features, download repository.  Nothing more.

Support for issues is not guaranteed nor implied, but is given as other member hobbyists have time and ability to answer and advise.

Your responses come across a bit entitled and sarcastic. This isn't Launchbox. But it is well supported by the author and the virtual pinball community.

Some things are automated. Some are not. As many will tell you, there is quite a bit of downloading and manual changes to make your setup your own.

Is the GameEx import tool not a good scraper of its own FTP site for MAME? There's lots of MAME media in there and the import tool has no problem getting most pinball media but can't seem to grab anything from the FTP site for MAME via the import tool.

As for PinballX I'm referring to my using it in a commecial product where it comes pre-installed on an approved product (VPCab). I didn't mean that I paid for PinballX but rather my "Supporting Member" sub which gave me FTP access. I'm not demanding support I'm merely asking a question on if there's some extra step I need to get the Game Manager import tool to locate the MAME media on the FTP site properly or if it lacks that capability entirely.

My question about where to get support stems from me asking a simple technical question and not getting a response since May which is surprising because it's a very simple question compared to the much more technical questions that were answered since then. I asked because I thought maybe I was supposed to go through another process (i.e. was there a paid tier for getting support questions answered in this forum). Sorry that you interpreted my inquiry as entitled or sarcastic.

Not a problem. We get a lot of queries and requests for assistance and it is not unusual for one or two to get pushed down below the more recent with no response.

I do not use the game manager import tool as it is limited. If your media matches the MAME ROM names, then it should be fairly straight forward.

I use the MAME media from emumovies on my cab.

To try and cut this long story short try naming the custom system mame

As for the support you and others need to know 85 percent of what you see here is a one man band. Me.

The import works the way it does because the virtual pinball community are very picky about there artwork. If you want a transparent import even moreso than launxhbox try gameex.
