Battle Damage - Unofficial Star Wars Hype Thread

I agree, and I'm down with that whole concept.  My nephews are the next generation of Star Wars geeks, and the fact that it lives on is very cool in its own right.  I have nothing against TFA,  and although it wasn't my favorite or very original, I look forward to seeing the new movies as they release at some point, just in the home theater.

Please, for the love of God, use the SPOILER tags if you guys are going to start talking about Last Jedi.  I've not seen it yet.  I'd hate to see something about the movie get posted here.

Spoiler

I got the soundtrack in the mail.  Haven't opened it yet to see the track list (typical spoiler there).  But I saw it says it was composed by John Williams.  I'm glad.  As good as the music from Rogue One was, it still lacked that John Williams touch.  HOWEVER, The Force Awakens soundtrack kinda makes me think like John Williams is just about finished with composing.  I mean, he's been doing it for like 50 years or more.  Nothing can beat the Imperial March from Empire Strikes back, the Throne Room from A New Hope, the Superman Theme, the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme, E.T., Close Encounters, Jurassic Park, etc.  The man is just awesome.  I was lucky enough to be guest directed by him one year when I was in the All-State band in High School.  We played the entire end credits to Jurassic Park (just came out at the time) and they were like "Please welcome our guest director, Mr. John WIlliams!"  I couldn't believe it.  But he left shortly after and I never got to meet him personally or get an autograph.  Still, to be directed by him was an honor.  I'm really going to miss that guy if/when he stops composing, and/or dies.

I was 15 when Star Wars came out. I heard the soundtrack on an LP at a friend's house the week it was in theaters.

A week later we saw the movie and I could hear how Williams musically told the story that played across the screen.

When I got my copy I would play it constantly, reliving the events of the movie in my mind as the music played.

He is one of the greatest composers ever.

I saw it last night.  I hate that theater though.  They had the volume cranked all the way up.  I left with a massive migraine.  But I loved the movie.  Had some good parts, had some "not so good" parts.  I'd love to discuss the finer points, but will courteously wait.

I can agree.  Last Jedi was an improvement to the Force Awakens to a degree.  I mean, it was a completely new and original story, where as TFA was just a rehash.  There were a lot of things I'm disgusted about in TLJ though:

Spoiler
  • Killing Snoke
    • Who the hell is he?
    • Where did he come from?
    • What's his story?
  • Killing Luke
    • Best scene in the movie is Luke standing there getting shot at by half a dozen walkers then coming away clean.  Then getting stabbed in the chest by a lightsaber and having it not hurt him.  THAT'S the Jedi I wanted to see.  Not some vision of him that takes so much effort it kills him.
  • No Lando
    • He was supposed to be in this one.  In a casino?  PERFECT place for him.  I dunno, maybe he'll show up at Han's official funeral once the Rebellion grows more stable and the First Order is gone.
  • No Wedge
    • Again, supposed to be in this one.
  • The Porgs
    • Advertised to death, supposed to be the coolest and greatest new creatures.  Instead, they look like fake CGI and are just a Chewbacca annoyance for maybe 30 seconds of total screen time.  Nope, the frost wolves were way cooler.
  • Laura Dern's Character
    • I hated her, and that woman with the huge nose until the end.  Then she comes around and I start liking her just to sacrifice herself.
    • Leia should have been the one to stay behind.  They had a year after Carrie Fisher's death to do some masterful CGI work and swap out the characters.  Let Leia die nobly by doing what she always does, fighting the "Empire".  Not let somebody else take the fall so she can run away.  And it would make sense being that the actress is gone and there is no future story for her.
  • Daisy Ridley is DONE
    • She doesn't want to do any more Star Wars movies.  She's had enough.  WTF?  This generation/trilogy IS ABOUT HER.
    • Oh I know, it'll be a redemption story for Ben Solo.  WHO CARES?!
    • I wanna see more Rey.  <3

I could go on and on...

I'm still on the fence about it.  Was it a great movie?  Hell yea.  Was it a good Star Wars movie?  It had it's moments.  Does it fit in and continue a positive Star Wars timeline and future?  Well....
