[RESOLVED] Mount bin before launching a game

Nightlife

Recommended Posts

Yes. There are several ways to accomplish this, but let's start at the beginning. Do you have Damon's Tools installed?

I have that installed, but have no idea how to access it. I see it's just a dll that goes in the plug-ins... what do I actually do with it? In the screenshot I see a Virtual Drive Loader app, but there is only a DLL with the download, not an exe...

In the GameEx folder is a Plugin Manager.exe

Run that and put a check next to this plugin.

Then follow the instructions. :-)

Ah! Been using GameEx for like 5 years now and didn't know that existed. :P

Question: The exe to launch is in one folder, and it has to mount an .bin in a different folder. What on earth do I put for the Mount Command? Really confused. Just need the .bin to mount, then the exe to launch. I tried putting "[path to the bin's folder]\[cd.bin]" but this most certainly did not work...

Wish the documentation had some sample use cases, so I could just copy the format. :(

Well, if you're using my plugin, the command line for your emulator in GameEx is emulator.exe [dtloader]

That's all there is to it, you don't need to set anything up in the plugin configuration. If you did set something up, erase the settings.xml in the GameEx > Plugins > DT Loader folder.

In your case it should work out if the box.

Well I'm not sure what you expect me to do without any sort of log file.

Runitgame.bat would also be helpful so I could at least see your command line.

Attached is my gameex.ini, is that what you need? It's emulator 15 for House of the Dead 3.

So essentially, when I start the game, here's what has to shake out...

First, GameEx has to mount a .bin located here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD3_EU\Hotd3\rld-hod3.bin

Then, it has to run the exe located on the drive (not on the CD) located here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD3_EU\hod3launch.exe

Hope that makes sense... basically I have the emulator set up now but it doesn't mount the .bin (with the game installer / start game window, when I pick play game, it prompts me to insert the cd).

Thanks again for your guidance...

I'm not seeing that attachment? If it's easier you can simply paste the contents of the file (or files) directly into your post. That's actually what I do most of the time. Spoiler tags are optional, but certainly don't hurt.

[spoiler]... Contents of GameEx.ini ...[/spoiler]

Sometimes it's also quite a bit easier to simply export your emulator config as opposed to the entire GameEx.ini (which is detailed in the How to Ask For Help thread). That way we can target in specifically on your troublesome emulator rather than comb through your entire GameEx.ini to glean the same information.

The other file that would be of some assistance here is your Virtual Drive Loader log. You can find that log in the following directory:

... GAMEEX\PLUGINS\DT LOADER\

I'm pretty sure we can get you there, we just need to have a good idea of what your system is doing before we can provide decent troubleshooting.

Thanks man!

Hopefully I don't cross wires with you if you're already editing your post, but I'm still not seeing anything? The forum can be sort of picky about file extensions on attachments, so it may be rejecting yours. Maybe just post the contents again?

I'm going have to rely on Adultery to confirm, but it looks like you haven't configured the plugin. The log for the plugin should have quite a bit more information in it than that. Here's one example I found:

Did you completely configure the plugin through the plugin manager? It would have looked something like this:

If you have configured the plugin, try running it in debug mode (lower left in the image) and re-post the contents of your log again.

Thanks Man!

Hmm ... once again, Adultery is the real expert on this plugin, but this part looks problematic to me:

2/6/2014 12:12:58 PM : VIRTUAL DRIVE LAUNCHER: Launcher(NEW) - ARG USING: -mount 0, "C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD3_EU\hod3launch.exe"

It looks like it's trying to mount the executable itself in DT, which will naturally be a bit problematic.

Is your ROM path pointed to the location of your Disc Images? Adultery will likely be able to provide better support, but I think the issue may be that you never specify a disc image to load in your command line. That may be the result of peculiarities in this particular emulator, but it's a bit of an unusual situation.

I think the plug-in should still be able to handle this situation, but being that this emulator only runs one game(?), you could also easily handle mounting and unmounting of the image via Run Before and Run After commands in your Emulator Config.

You had it set up right the first time.

The problem is that ssf is trying to mount and run the image, not the launcher exe.

I don't know what to say, that exe is fouling everything up for you. What is it for?

You're telling ssf that you want to mount and play the image but you're actually trying to launch an exe. This is quite an unusual setup, so I need to know more info, abd I need to see your emulator config.

Hi Adultery...

You said ssf, but what's that? I think you may be looking at the sample config nullPointer posted?

It's kind of funky the way the game has to work. The disc has to be mounted, and the game has to start from the exe on the HD, so a lightgun patch can work.
