Feature request brought over from General forum. Allow for the creation of "play lists" not unlike what can be done within iTunes, WinAmp, or WMP. This would allow for users to create lists of games across emulators so that they can group genres (example, all Mario games, Sonic games, mix & match for a child, etc.). This would be an additional layer beyond using Favorites and allow for even further flexibility and enjoyment of GameEx.

Another Feature Request - a Debug type GUI application that can be accessed from GameEx or externally that can display GameEx version and OS/CPU/Memory info, contents of log files, show list of where files are being accessed (example, I want to determine where a logo file is being accessed with path\filename), and would allow one to copy log files to clipboard for easier posting in forums.

Not sure how practical this is but I'll add my 2 cents anyway. I've used the screensaver with a different frontend previously and one thing I really liked was being able to use all the artwork, my monitor is too small to use it for gameplay apart from cropped with vertical games, but there's some great artwork (and plenty of shockingly bad stuff) that it's a shame never gets seen.

So personally I'd love to be able to have the screensaver show the game information without the mame bezel and run it off a different mame.exe (or do it within gameex if that's possible) so that I could set it to show all the artwork uncropped.

Would be handy to have within gameex but there are also external programs like Romlister that can do this as well. You can move or delete roms based on just about any description so I've moved all the casino, mahjong etc as well as games my set up cant play like light gun and track ball games to an extrernal drive, I could delete them but its handy to have them incase I change the cabinet.

Love the download service utitily. What I would like to see is if you have no video, snap, title, box etc. GameEx would display a picture saying no snap available, or no video available, no box available or whatever as a default. When a user is using my cab and nothing shows up they always as ask is the game working or available. GameEx would look to see if a picture or video is available, if not it would display the default. Just think the frontend experience would be improved if a picture showed up rather then just a blank spot on the scrren.

^^ +1

I thought about doing this myself but didn't have time or, well, time to go through and look for snaps I'm missing. Of course, if I had that time to spare, I'd just use GameEx to take the snaps I'm missing anyways. :)

This would work on snaps and videos but not on all the other media the download service is providing such as boxes, titles, etc. But, once again this inolves alot of time. It would just make the frontend look better to have something in that spot until one can find the time to find the media. (some may never be found, so you want something to show) this would also be a reminder to go take the time and go find that picture when the no box shot shows up.

I (and a few others)would really like it if gameex could show mame games with a goodmerged look, instead of having multiple listings of the same game in the main list.It would be nice to click on a game,go to the "play this game" screen and just like it has a "games in series" list have a list the shows the games clones.

The new Youtube features are awesome. Can a button be added to let us save a Youtube file we view and like to keep for showing to someone later.

Another is request is the ability to play Karaoke files that are zipped. Could be done just like games where it unzips in to folder and is ovwerwritten with each new song.

Hey Tom - a relatively easy one I think - I need to be able to turn a monitor upside down due to some space constraints in my cab, and my video card does not support rotation (which means I can't do it via the O/S).

GameEx can already rotate 90 degrees left or right - any chance to get a 180 degree rotation functionality in there please?

Thanks

I'm trying to create a new theme, but have run into a minor snag with the "Most Played" and "Last Played" pages.

Basically my theme has a TV screen in the bottom left corner for displaying emulator previews in the "Image2" position. This works really well until I go to the "Most Played" or "Last Played" screens, which displays the selected game in the "Image1" position, meaning the video is in the wrong place and the box art is inside of the TV image instead!

What I need to be able to do is to specify a custom layout for the "Most Played" and "Last Played" screens? This way I can place "Image1" inside the TV image.

It would also be great if I could specify a custom background image for these screens. Unfortunately, I can't see a way to do either of these things in the theme editor.

Is what I want possible inside the theme editor?

If not, then consider this a feature request.

I currently use one of the image open slots to display one of 5 images I've made, (1 of 5 stars, 2 of 5 stars etc) to display my personnal acessment of a game.Unfortunately I have to name the image for each game I want to rate. Would it be possible to have a way to put an option on the game screen so you could rate it within GameEx. Mayb4e a 1 to 10 scale wouuld be better, to allow for more of a spread of accessment. 1 to 5 dosn't allow for alot of distintion.

Also when displaying "All GAMES", could a small icon be placed next to the game name showing the system its for. Icons for the game systems are pretty easy to find on the web. A quick search on my part came up with well over a hundred systems icons. This would make it easy to know which game is for which system.

I use GameEx to read my comic book and magazine files. Could GameEx display in the snap image the first image in the file. This is always the cover of the book or magazine. Would look good to show the book covers as you scroll the titles.

I second Starbuck on the system icons thing, as I was going to suggest the exact same! It looks bizzare when MAME games have their own icons but are surrounded by games with no icon. The same could be said for search results. I also would like his idea about the first page of comics to be shown, the empty boxes on the comics page is upsetting. Not sure about his idea for the rating system but I like his other ideas!

The rating stars is a good idea, and since GameEx already has the rating data from MAWS that could be the default rating for all the games. The ratings are currently only displayed on the Bezel Info screen.

Another feature request.. I wrote a little util a while back called volume. What that did was load and save master volume settings for each game. So when you start a game it loads the last setting and when you exit it saves the current volume. This is great for games that have various volume levels and require constant volume changing. Anyway I would like to see this feature built into GameEx if possible.

Could this rating be incorporated as part of saving a game to Favorites? So when the user saves to Favorites, they are prompted with an option to give the game a rating?

Also, to "bump" a previous request - this could be be an option if creating a games "Play List."

I Like a combination of Draco and Headkaze. Every game I play I don't make a favorite. The MAWS would work except its not my rating of a game but an overall rating. How bout the MAWS being the default and a button added to let you change the default to a personnal rating. That way you could also rate videos and music.

@Hunk Love the screen name! that 4th survivor mode in RE2 was super hard!anyway I would like to say I too like the MAWS\rating idea.

But I also must ask again for MAME games to be viewed in a goodmerged style! I cant believe others havent suggested this before!I would love to see all available clones for a game by just clicking on it instead of having multiple images of the same game. Please Tom make this happen!!

This would be awesome! I smell a registered users only feature!

This would eliminate the clone listing bug on my machine too. Since we can already do series info it should be doable, no? Add the little flag for each country like emus do and that there is a sweet feature! I'd be willing to work on the map file or db to make this happen if need be.
