  1. Hello all, I've been having trouble recently with more frequent GameEx crashes. I purchased GameEx early in 2011 and don't remember any codec crash problems until the past few months. It actually makes the application unusable. I think I have isolated the problem down to video codec problems. The system is: - Win 7 x64 - NVIDIA Quattro FX 3800 - Latest GameEx (as of 12/25/2011) - Emumovies mix of avi, mp4 - Default GameEx theme (the blue one) Depending on the random movie it plays on first startup, I do not even get to the main menu. I have read some forum topics around Shark007 and Klite codecs. I have tried uninstalling the codecs, and doing a fresh install of Shark007, and I still have the same results. I have tried uninstalling Shark007 and installing Klite, and still have the same results. I have tried not installing the 64 bit components (only the 32 bit components) on either Shark007 or Klite, and have the same results. I have tried "messing with" the seemingly endless amount of settings within Shark007 and Klite without success. Once it crashes, it will continue to crash almost every GameEx launch unless I reboot. After the reboot, it's hit or miss how long it takes to crash. If under Multimedia/HTCP I change DVD MPEG2 Codec to blank, I get no crashes (or video). I typically have this set to ffdshow. I have no problems with any other application on the system with video (iTunes, Premier, Windows Media Player, etc). I can play all of the emumovies video files from windows explorer / windows media (or media classic) fine. It seems that there is a problem with how GameEx invokes / handles the codecs. If I look at the GameEx log file, there is no real error message - just saying that it got to the Main loop. I've tried deleting *cache* from gameex\data, but it doesn't help. Looking at the Windows event viewer - application log, on a crash I get the following 2 entries below at the bottom of the email. If I disable the MPEG2 codec above, I get no crash bugs. This may be completely unrelated, but when GameEx first starts up, the mouse moves to the lower right corner of the screen. If I hover over the text icons (such as Emulators) by moving from the right to the left and hover over a few text buttons before clicking the one I want, I get frequent crashes. If I move the mouse under the text over to the far left, then move the mouse up to the same level as the text (but still on the background), and then move over to the right, it doesn't crash. That one has annoyed me for a while. Does anybody have suggestions on how to setup codecs to work with GameEx? Is there a FAQ / recommeneded seetings for codecs? This seems to be a black art, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for everyone. I can post my gameex.ini, but it's pretty long - what are the [] tags for a spoiler?
