As stated - Trying to open any games from within GameEx has rendered little in results. ie: I open Golden Eye for N64 through GameEx, it gives an error message, then I manually open the ROM from the emulator sitting there still and it works perfectly. I go to open one of the built in MAME games (Pac-Man for example -might be doing this wrong too because only like 6 are listed) and it just says it's opening in the bottom left but never does. I'm noticing that there isn't really one set of instructions, just lots of fixes for individual problems posted here. So for people like me who might have just learned what MAME means, and are new to emulation...that could be daunting as all hell, especially after a $17+ purchase for something to make things easier/semi-automatic. For example - what am I supposed to launch the application with? The Simple Mode? Because when I open it in GameLauncher mode, I get black screen, nothing more. Another small bit of feedback: You say to post the log.txt and gameex.ini - awesome place to put that reminder, but should add in where to find those. I found the log.txt after seeking it, but the other not so much. Thanks very much in advance, and I hope I don't come off too pricky here - it's been a long night to little end! - Danny log.txt

I downloaded a huge torrent of avi. video snaps from emumovies and put them in the correct directory and it just still displays the picture snaps. I also downloaded Shark007 codec pack as many people suggested for the video snaps... But still, nothing plays. I'm stumped.

Hello! A few days ago, I added a startup video that I downloaded from EmuMovies (Which the video was pretty awesome lol - its the one that starts out with Pong, then goes to Pitfall, then Mario, Sonic, etc...) Anyway, after directing GameEx to the "intro" folder I created for the Startup Video Directory in the Setup Wizard, when I start GameEx, its been "hit or miss" when loading. What I mean by this is that, it seems like GameEx tries to load at the same time the video is running - there will be flashes of the GameEx Homescreen and will suddenly freeze on either the video or homescreen, leaving the audio playing. When the audio from the video finishes, GameEx will close and an error box will load, saying that there was a problem with DirectX. This doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes - about once every 5 to 10 times or so. I am away from my cab right now, but as soon as I get home, I'll try to recreate the problem, and post the log and config files if needed. What I am wondering for now is, has anyone had the same problem? ...and if so, how did they fix it? My video card and drivers are all up to date, and I done everything that the error suggested to do, but with no progress. Thanks in advance for all of your help! LC

Hi, I have read through the FAQ and the feature request forum, and I am not sure if this feature exists or not. Sorry if something already exists. I have GameEx configured to merge ROM sets. However when this happens there is no way to select what snap is shown from merged set that I can see. For example if I have 3 verions of a ROM with a video snap for the only one version of the ROM, but the other two versions only have a picture snap, I will often find that the static picture snap is the one that is used to represent the merged set. Is this something I can resolved without having to duplicate my video snaps? Can a map file be used? Or best still, could GameEx be configured so that a video snap superseeds a picture snap on merged sets? Thanks in advance

Has anyone gotten mp4 video previews to work using the VLC player codecs? I've heard people suggest using Shark007 codecs but I'd rather not use those if possible. One reason is that I've read that it automatically installs browser toolbars and other adware automatically. But the real reason is that VLC is my preferred video player. In the video/movie player settings page in the Setup Wizard I have set the settings to use an external video player and pointed it to the vlc.exe file. Does anyone know if this changes the video player for the screensaver mode, video preview while browsing, and for manually playing videos in the multimedia section? Or does this only change the video player for the multimedia section? Anyway, right now, if I use the Setup Wizard to adjust my MAME settings page to point to the video previews (MP4 HI_QUAL downloaded from EmuMovies) then all artwork in GameEx does not work, including the videos. If I remove those videos, then all my artwork comes back (snaps, cabinets, marquees, etc). I'm running Windows XP with the latest GameEx version. Any other information needed for this topic? Thanks.
