  1. Hi guys, Something odd is happening with my GameEx and MAME setup. When I press the 'Esc' button while MAME is active, this action kills MAME and GameEx will re-appear. No problem with that, this is how it should be, right? But sometimes, after exiting MAME and going back to Gameex, the screen will go black temporary. After about two seconds, GameEx re-appears again. Two seconds later, a black screen again. This repeats itself continuously. During the black screen, the controls do not work, only during the seconds when GameEx appears. Has anyone a clue what causes this? It does not happen all time btw.

  4. Hi guys, I have a lot of MAME roms that won't launch with GameEx but do launch with CMD. For example the game 'Viewpoint'; it launches fine with MAME in CMD without command line options. But in GameEx, the game will not launch. If I select the game, the screen goes black for a quick moment and then returns to GameEx. Other MAME roms will launch in GameEx but there are many that won't. I tried it with and without MAME command line options in GameEx. Did not make a difference. All the paths are correct. The same executable and paths are used in CMD. I have attached the GameEx.ini, mame.ini and the GameEx log file in this post. Hope anyone can figure it out? GameEx version: 13.27 MAME version: 0.154 Roms version: 1.53 Thanks, Michel << UPDATE!! >> The rom 'Viewpoint' will launch with GameEx Lite. I haven't tested it, but I pressume the rest of the roms also will launch with GameEx Lite. But with this solution comes a different problem: With GameEx Lite there are no video previews in the games list. Is that a setting in GameEx Lite or in my theme? If I could get the video previews back again, this solution with GameEx Lite version would be fine with me. GameEx.ini log.txt mame.ini

Hello, I have built a seperate mame box out of a older hp slim computer. I tested gamex among others and like this one the best. I will purchase it if I can get it working on the box correctly. I did get it up and running on my main gaming computer but when I went to the hp it crashes when trying to load a game... I load mortal kombat and it gets to initializing with the white lines around the display then crashes back to gameex. I have attached what I beleive is the correct log file. The computer isnt online or any network so I have to shuttle a disk to get these files. the rig is a e8400 4gig ram 250gig drive intel video card with a x-arcade dual stick controller. Thank you log.txt

  8. Hello, If I go to check my MAME ROMs, it shows all of the ROMs I have in the MAME ROM directory... but they are all named exactly what the actual filenames are named. They also have no artwork displaying whatsoever. I assume that this is solved by using the "Update List" option that I keep reading about all over the forums, correct? The problem is, that option does not exist anywhere on any menu, certainly not the MAME menu. Even more infuriating is that randomly the list of files I have disappears entirely and GameEx reverts to showing the 4 games included with artwork in the \GAMEEX\DEMO\ directory. There is absolutely NOTHING in my config that points to these files. Why would it do this? Here's what I see instead of a proper listing of MAME ROMs and the menu listing showing no option to UPDATE LIST. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. log.txt GameEx.ini
  9. Hi, I've been having trouble getting all my MAME roms to show up in the list. I've got a full, current, merged, 7zipped romset that checks out in ClrMAMEPro. But in GameEx, I'm missing a bunch of games. If I set verifyroms to on, along with turning off "show only existing games", I'll get 1,447 roms to show up. It looks like most of them are in the beginning of the alphabet too - the first 1,300 or so are up to the letter D. The attached files are from a brand new GameEx install. The only thing I configured was MAME. I got similar results on my "normal" GameEx install, but not quite the same. I don't have any hard numbers, but I know in some configuration on my normal install, I would get only about 400 roms stopping in the middle of the letter C (I think Carnevil was the last one). Anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks! GameEx.ini log.txt
  10. One thing i've always loved about GameEx is all the little features you discover that may at first not seem obvious to you. MAME custom lists may well be one of those features! I've only recently discovered them myself and now can't live without them. So what are they? Well, you know all the various lists you can enable in the MAME section of GameEx, for example: Atari Games, Classics, Vertical Games etc etc? Well you can make your own! "Really?! Well stop babbling and show us how!" Sure thing For this guide i will be using our High Score Competition custom MAME list as an example. You can grab a live updated version anytime, here. As you can see it looks quite simple, and it really is! Let's break it down: [FOLDER_SETTINGS] | | This section must be included,RootFolderIcon = cust1.ico | but is not important. Leave as is.SubFolderIcon = cust2.ico |[High Score Games] | This is the Title of your list as it will appear in GE. It can be anything you like! <--It's important to leave this gap!1944 |anteater |arkanoid | Your game list! Just list the roms you would likebankp | included in your list, one on each new line. The onlyblazstar | thing to remember here is use the ROM name - GameExbloodbro | will take care of formating it for you into nice Titlesbombjack |You can create your lists with Windows Notepad (or any decent text based editor) using the above format, BUT make sure you save it with the .ini extension and NOT .txt (ie: myubermamelist.ini). The filename can be anything you like but obviously it's good practice to give it a name that makes sense to you.Great! Now what? Now you need to tell GameEx where your lists are! You should put all your lists into one folder. I have a folder in my MAME directory called "customlists", but they can be anywhere you like. Just make sure they are all together in that one folder. Next, load the GE Setup Wizard> Custom> MAME Settings. Find Custom Lists Path, and browse to the folder containing all your lists: Finally, boot GameEx. Go into the MAME section and hit Update List. Wait for it to do it's thing and then back out of the main game list (it will load the All MAME Games list automatically when it's finished updating) and BOOM! There is your snazzy custom list waiting to be browsed If i've not explained anything clearly just leave a reply and i'll do my best to assist you. Now get creating them awesome lists! For your pleasure, some lists that i have created: Dazzle's MAME Shmup Hitlist (WIP): thedazzlelist.ini The GC-Wolfman Shmup Comp 2014: wgcshmuptourney2014.ini The Internet Gaming Bash of the Year 2014: IGBOTY2014.ini Monster Mash 2014: monstermash2014.ini Internet Gaming Bash of the Year 2 - 2015: IGBOTY2-2015.ini - Courtesy of Buzzin69 Enjoy! TIP: To get the rom name of the games you want to add to your list, i find using Romcenter the easiest method. It will create a database from your own MAME.exe from which you can just search the title of the game you want and it will tell you the associated rom name. It sure beats sifting through 28,000 roms in Windows! halloweenbash2015.txt
  11. I went to Yestercades in both Red Bank and Somerville New Jersey a couple of days ago and I was in awe by how beautiful the original Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe vectors were. I'd never seen them on the original cabinets, only multigames and emulated. I know it's not possible to emulate the brightness of a vector monitor or the extra bright bullets, but I've seen some screenshots of MAME + HLSL Configurations that make Vector Games look at least a little better. Only problem is, whenever I turn on HLSL, I just get a Black Screen with sound. Have any of you gotten MAME and HLSL to work? I'm using MAMEUI64 0.153 by the way. Here's a thread with the configuration I'm attempting and some screenshots. http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=309968&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&vc=1

  15. I have a very weird issue. Everything worked perfectly fine yesterday. Today I put the InstantShell on. Now, the number one key doesn't work on the keyboard or my X-Arcade duel joystick in any of the emulators. It works fine in GameEx and I can type it in Notepad. I thought maybe it was the InstantShell so I undid it but it still doesn't work. Both Mame and Nestopia were having the issue (those are the two I use). Has anyone seen this type of issue before? I am not sure what else to try.
  16. Ok, I have just ventured into my first compiling of MAME on my own. The version of MAME I had before was .143. It now appears to be up to .153. I am just wondering what files I need to update in my current mame directory in order to update it to run .153. Basically, what files do I move from my compiler files to my MAME files location? (I imagine it will be a simple (hopefully!) copy and replace type deal into my main MAME directory of the applicable files...)

This is a fixed history.dat for MAME 0.153 that re-introduced the "CarnEvil bug". If your Update List process halts at the "C" games, particularly at CarnEvil, this will likely fix your issue. Remember to Update List once you have replaced the file.
  18. hello everyone, I'm sorry but it certainly is a discussion already opened in another topics. I have a problem with the settings of mame and in particular in the recognition of roms. in practice they are not present in the list of all roms GameEx. I own the romset 0.153 that was controlled with clrmamepro. I have used most versions of mame all in 64-bit version MameUI, mameplus, mame, mameuifx. all data files have been updated to the latest versions on the net. in the advanced settings of mame, I was turned on viewing all the roms (roms clones, imperfect games, casino games, mayhong games, adult games). at each change of configuration was executed scaning of the list of rom. but nothing to make the game list is not complete: the list stops at letter C and precisely to CarnEvil rom (1.0.1) also chd stop at the letter C. 25. Please forgive me, most probaply this issue was discussed again but I couldn't find any answer. I have working ROMs in MAME UI but they don't appear in the MAME list in GameEx. I have try disabling the "Verify ROMs" but still the same (and the rest of filters set to true). What is the procedure to check those "not showing" MAME ROMs? (An example of not showing ROM is the Q-BERT)
