  1. This happens when: 1) You use a theme with foreground images. 2) You change to use the view where all the icons are displayed across the middle. 3) You change to a page with a foreground image. What you see is the foreground image displaying for a split second, and then disappearing when the icons are rendered. It's quite jarring. I made a YouTube video of the problem: GameEx.ini log.txt
  2. Thank you! That is exactly what it was. I set up my MAME configuration again from scratch and filled in the background artwork field (which was new to me, but I happened to have some MAME backgrounds so I set it). I have deleted it and now it works as I want it. This is really quite confusing because the "Change View" option can also set the background, so now there are two mechanisms to set the background.
  3. So I changed the view on the game description screen to get my background image back, but now I can't reproduce the bug anymore! I dunno.
  4. I found out how to reproduce this. You have to select "Change View" on the screen you go to before actually start the game (i.e. the screen with the game description and "start game" option) and then go back to the home screen. Doing this seems to break the background image for a number of menu screens (it just shows black).
  5. I've tried changing the view a few more times, and it seems the background image has disappeared from all views on the start and emu select menus. Also, when GameEx is loading, the background image appears, but it then disappears as soon as the start menu appears.
  6. Hello, I am trying to create a new theme, but have come up against an issue that I can't solve. Basically, I made the mistake of clicking "Change View". I didn't like what I saw so I clicked it multiple times until I got the original view back (the view I am using is the default GameEx text view). Problem is, the theme background has now disappeared completely from my start menu and emulator select menu. All other menus are fine. When I change to another theme, the background is still missing on these two menus. I think this is a bug, but in the meantime, what can I do to get my backgrounds back. Re-install GameEx? (Interestingly V1 themes are unaffected by this issue, but otherwise all other themes are now broken). I have attached GameEx.ini and log.txt GameEx.ini log.txt Cheers

  8. Hello! I just discovered a bug in the way themes are handled. When using Custom Module Layouts without using Custom Emulator Layouts each emulator screen uses the Emulator Select Layout, not the Emulator Layout (in other words, it uses emulatorselect_module.ini instead of emu_module.ini). This is problematic for me, since I want to always display videos in a specific place, and the emulator select screen puts videos in the Image2 position whereas emulators put the video in the Image position. I've attached my Theme.ini in case it is useful.
  9. I don't know if this is related to your problem, but I can't get my theme background to show in the MAME list. It always shows the currently selected game as a snap in the background. My MAME background which I lovingly crafted does not show (it used to work OK although I updated for the first time in a year recently so I don't which version broke it). I tried changing view, I tried unchecked the "show snap" checkbox in the theme options. I've tried everything but no joy. Other themes work fine - it's just my custom theme. It used to show my custom MAME background, but it doesn't anymore
  10. I just posted this in the "general" forum, but maybe it is better here.... "I'm trying to create a new theme, but have run into a minor snag with the "Most Played" and "Last Played" pages. Basically my theme has a TV screen in the bottom left corner for displaying emulator previews in the "Image2" position. This works really well until I go to the "Most Played" or "Last Played" screens, which displays the selected game in the "Image1" position, meaning the video is in the wrong place and the box art is inside of the TV image instead! What I need to be able to do is to specify a custom layout for the "Most Played" and "Last Played" screens? This way I can place "Image1" inside the TV image. It would also be great if I could specify a custom background image for these screens. Unfortunately, I can't see a way to do either of these things in the theme editor. Is what I want possible inside the theme editor? If not, then consider this a feature request."

  12. Great job. This really has improved the emulator selection page. As far as I can see, the MAME category select page is still unresponsive, probably for the same reason.
