The title says it all. After exiting a video, GameEx crashes. It's XviD and it plays fine in Media Player and on my Media Sharing server. Log file attached.

I should also mention it's extremely laggy when I try to watch it within GameEx.

Do you get a hard crash (window error) too? I think this is the same issue as you currently have with the web browser. Its not easy for me to fix unfortunatly as I cant duplicate it on any machine I have access to.

What browser/version? I have had to work an some issues for my work clients with IE 8 due to old plug-ins/add-ons. When they reinstalled IE 8 compatible versions these resolved. Keep in mind that IE has more integration with Windows Explorer from XP forward but especially in Win Vista/7.

The issue I am referring to is not related to the browser but a bug in GameEx when it changes the display settings to show the browser and also play videos and DVDs. Unfortunatly the error cannot be trapped in code and I can't duplicate it. I think it only affects a few folks.

Is there any way I can help you isolate it? All I get is a GameEx crash. Windows works just fine after. When the browser craashes I usually get a JIT debugger window, but this doesn't produce one. Does it matter that the preview seems to play and it only crashes after launch of the video itself?

I have the same problem on my cab. Intro video works fine but any time I exit a video or it ends GameEx crashes. I even reinstalled XP but got the same problem. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I will probably upgrade that computer (for another reason) soon and hopefully not have this problem anymore. But I'm available as well if it will help.

Sty, please post your log. Adultery can you try the default theme please? Also are you using any background videos?

Sty, do you know when it last worked?

To confirm if it is the same related issue I thought. Does it happen running GameEx windowed?

Unless you mean preview videos, there shouldn't be anything else running in the bg. I will try running in windowed mode first, then I will try using the default theme. I wonder if its related to my high resolution I run?
I'll report back with my findings as soon as I can get to it (I'm working right now).

Reposting in this thread as it seems more of a current issue.

Getting the same thing on mine. I'm not sure if it was the update today or not, because coincidentally I just added my videos to it again today. Running at 640x480 on a standard def TV.

One thing I've noticed: If I tell GameEx "Do Not Change Resolution", the crash happens upon exiting the video. However, if I tell GameEx to specifically use 640x480 as its resolution, the videos will start playing but give a different error at the start of the video that doesn't stop the video from playing but does seem to mess up the overlay. But, after that error, it won't crash when I exit the video. I hope that makes sense?

In summary:
GameEx not changing resolution = crash on exiting any video
GameEx changing to a specific resolution = error when starting video, no overlay, but no crash on exiting

Tried it with GameEx set to Windowed or Fullscreen. Same results. It also doesn't seem to matter what theme I'm using. I tried it with Default - Hybrid Blue and the Default MCE themes.

This is on Windows XP.

Here is my log from when it crashes on exiting a video.
Spoiler

Is this in any way related to the AGP video cards? Maybe the small handful of us still haven't made the switch to PCI-E? It's probably a long shot...

I had posted a similar response to GoesTheBunnies a while back. You may need to look at your Bios for your video aperture settings. It may take a little " googling" to find how this should be set depending on your AGP video card and the amount of VRAM you have on it, but you may need to adjust the video aperture in Bios to make sure that you are not opening up too much for the data pipe to handle at once.

I just ordered a (seemingly) rare dualcore agp board that will double my RAM. Now I'm worried. ;)

Would you mind checking and answering my questions above?

I wouldn't be worried about it. AGP is usually fine so long as the aperture settings in BIOS settings meet the manufacturers recommendations. I think Tom needs to know if you are running any backgournd, vids, does this happen in windowed mode?

Happens even when using default theme.

Happens running windowed or fullscreen.

Not running background videos.

Last it worked was a year or so ago on this same box, no hardware changes since then (e.g. ever). Between now and then we didn't have a spare TV to hook it to, just reconnected it the other day.

After testing just now I can confirm that the default theme does not work. No background vids, and does crash GameEx in windowed mode. Escape takes forever to do anything and the result is a crash. :(

What codecs do you have installed? Could be a codec issue potentially.
