  • With a lot of help from Headkaze (Ben) the video libraries have been updated in GameEx. This means the following
    • Now works with latest version of FFDSHOW
    • Startup video can be in any supported format
    • Can preview any supported video type including DVDs on disk
    • Create snaps for videos is now much faster and more user freindly
    • Can now play FLV files (assuming FFDSHOW installed)
    • Movies and DVDs now use latest MS SDKs
    • Also fixes an issue playing DVDs/Videos full screen, and issue when previewing videos in the video module the previews would not always show
    • I can't thank Ben enough for his help with this
    • Make sure you uninstall existing codecs before installing the latest version of FFDSHOW

Thanks Tom/HK !

:)

p.s. is the latest version of ffdshow on the GX site ?
"In the worlds before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order, but the phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless eons wheeled and passed. Time, and the pure essences of heaven, the moisture of the Earth, the powers of the sun and the moon, all worked upon a certain rock, old as creation, and it became magically fertile. That first egg was named 'Thought'... Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch; from it then came a stone monkey. The nature of Monkey was irrepressible!"

Also is there a reason to install a new version of ffdshow if the old one is working?

If you use your GameEx computer for something else than gaming (ex: a home theater PC), it is primordial to use a newer version of FFDSHOW, especially if you plan to use it in conjuction with matroska splitter or mp4 splitter...

Great news! This should help a lot of new users since they don't always check these type of requirements.

Works great Tom. Thanks for the FFDshow update. All the larger videos are working, and all the other issues I had are gone. Not sure why... but who cares. ;)

Great job!

Thanks for the update Tom.

Question... I am running Vista 64 and using "ffdshow_rev2014_20080617_x64.exe" since I started using Game Ex with no problems. Is there a new version than this that you are referring on updating to?

ffdshow is included in many "codec packs" and you should choose 1 codec pack and install that. The Vista Codec Pack is one of my favourites, but there are many others like CCCP, KLite etc. Make sure you uninstall all codecs / codec packs before installing it.

Hehe the thing is Tom I always thought you were using DShow for video previews all along so I'm sure if I had of known otherwise this issue would have been resolved long ago. Even though I had it working okay using Vista Codec pack in the previous version it looks like it solved the issue for other people (Finally I can recommend Vista Codec Pack!). Monkey begone!

Now I'm sure you've forgotten a few other items in this release though.. hmm what could they be? I guess you wanted to get this video thing tested straight away and that I can understand.. so there are a couple of interesting features coming up in the next release then ;)

Is it just me or do the video's seem a bit quicker/more fluid to display now?

Really liking this :)

I guess there is no offical site to download this stuff from? I mean no Microsoft codec packs or anything like that?

I know I also need to look for a 64 bit version as well but here's the thing, I am not sure who it was here before but I was always told that installing the least amount of codec was my best bet. I other words, it was better to just install say ffdshow and not packs like these.

Just wan to make sure I am going in the right direction here.

Running GameEx XP on P4/2.4
5 second (extra) delay when selecting a menu item with a video attached. Happens every time, even if I havn't navigated to a new page. Just scrolling will lock everything for 5 seconds if for example I move over the Mame section.
Removed ffdshow and updated to the Dec 08 release.

No improvement???

Please help!?

PS I also tried the CCCP. It said something about me having short name generation disabled on my NTFS drives. Could that have anything to do with it?

Did you do an auto update? If so can you try manually installing?
