New ISO mounting support
  • GameEx now features simple to use ISO mounting support
  • To enable it it needs to be selected during install of GameEx. It has been bundled with the install Karaoke option. Just select the checkbox on install.
  • DVDs on disk now support ISOs for both the internal and any external player. If using windvd9 as an external player BluRay ISO images will play. You don't need to do anything special to use the ISO support with DVDs on disk. Just set the paths as normal, and ensure ISO support is installed.
  • For Emulators its now very simple to have mounting support.
  • Assuming your files for the emulator are ISOs just add [-VIRTUALDRIVE-] to the emulator command line setting to tell GameEx it should just mount the image. That's it, no more complicated launch before and launch after scripts.
    • Example: unz.exe -fs[-VIRTUALDRIVE-]
  • If you wish to put the drive letter of the mounted image into the command line use [VIRTUALDRIVE] ie without the dashes.
    • Example: powerdvd.exe [VIRTUALDRIVE]:\
  • Ive updated all the default emulator configs to use the new in built support.
  • The feature also supports BIN and CUE files for emulators.
  • Images are automatically unmounted.

Sweet! I guess I can uninstall daemon-tools?

How will I install this with the auto updates? Will I be able to select it?

Its a lighter solution than daemon-tools, but does not have as wide support, and does not support copy protection. If your just using it for emulation then yes, I would think.

You need to download and run gameexsetup.exe manually from gameex.com

WOW! That will be sweet!

Sweet! I don't know what format my Saturn games are in, but is it possible that the ISO format support will be expanded if needed? I don't know how hard it would be to expand, so I'm just curious.

As long as it does the job!

BFD if it does not support copy protection, hell isn't that a plus?

I will keep Daemon Tools installed in the meantime as I dabble in another front end that I am sure will need it.

I think yourll find its quite a thorough implementation. Although it obviously relies on third party libraries and programs, so its somewhat limited.

Just tested and it works great Tom! I did however have a question. Not sure if it's a bug or not. When running GameEx in fullscreen mode it all works fine but when running GameEx windowed then the loading screen flickers continuously when returning from the emulator. Should it do that?

I also noticed it seems to take ages when going to the Game Info screen for the first time. It shows the loading window and takes over a minute to finish.

It might be doing a one off recaching off the database tables. When did you last upgrade and play.

Thanks Tom! Wasn't much of a big deal cuz I usually run Fullscreen anyways. Had it windowed for testing purposes.

Yeah that windowed mode is handy. You know a lot of front ends dont have that :)

I did do an update today and download the latest database package during install. But I've tried a few times since then and it keeps doing it. I thought it might be related to HiToText but I tried a game with no .hi file same thing. I thought it might be CPWizard so I turned that off but it's still doing it. Whatever it's doing it's not a one off or for some reason it keeps recaching

EDIT: It only seems to happen when you view the Game Info page the first time each GameEx launch.
