Okay I edited the first post to show the characters I'm looking for marked with (*) and some are still needing suggestions. So if you want to help with this then finding character and hardware graphics at 512 x 512 or higher res or make a suggestion. Obviously it's easy to suggest a character, hard to find one so it's much more help finding the graphics.

I don't want suggestions that are your personal favourites but that were the most popular games/characters for the system to represent it.

Although you already seem to have plenty of ideas for PC images how about maniac mansion : http://mojoart.mixnmojo.com/original-art/m...t_1600x2012.jpg
or Day of the Tentacle: http://mojoart.mixnmojo.com/original-art/d...t_1600x2009.jpg
Characters are in the posters.

I was going to suggest the likes of California games for '64 but no recognisable characters in that, nice legs on the cover though.

Thanks for the Lucas Arts artwork, that will be useful for a ScummVM theme :)

Don't like the R-Type one much as it looks too much like a model unfortunately

Well you can never go wrong with the game mascots. With that said its sometimes hard to pin one down..
Like gameboy for instance. I remember Pokemon being the most popular for the GB..
That game is hella old and wouldnt be a bad choice for any of the gameboy handhelds.

Usually a quick google of top 10 *insert console name here* games will yeild good results
Look at a few of those then pick the similar games to make your choice from.

I have found a few characters searching Google that way but I guess the main problem is finding the graphics. I do have a Pikachu already cut out actually, just haven't found a system for it yet. I thought Tetris would be better suited for GB but I think Pokemon graphics would look nicer actually.

Its funny you should say that becuse Tetris was the first thought of mine but I dismissed it as pokemon was a prettier choice of graphic.
But while it was popular it was released toward the end of the console life cycle. Tetris probably is the better choice.
However Gameboy color spawn about 10 pokemon carts.. So its probably best suited for that.
Gameboy advance had Zelda minish cap..(I played that all the way through) and DS has a mean mario kart.

Thanks Flash, but Sonic graphics are the easiest to find. I found a website with heaps of hires pics of Sonic and friends, but thanks anyway! Try and find hires stuff of some of the classic arcade characters. Heh it's near on impossible!

had a look for manic miner.. nothing unless you want the telephone from the advert. it is hires. When you think about it, have you ever seen a picture of manic miner... He was never on cassette covers and in JSW covers his head was down a toilet.
You could use an image from ingame expanded and textured in photoshop i suppose. i just cannot think of anything more iconic on the spectrum.

Hope this may be of some help

had lots of fun recreating the jet flame... May need a tidy round the edges a bit, depending on background used..

That looks brilliant! But forgive my stupidity, who is the character and what system is it for?

I will fix up the edges no problem, in fact all the artwork I find I cut out freehand using the marquee tool. There is no way to get the edges right using the magic marquee. I'm very much a perfectionist when it comes to things like that, kinda like how you are with the databases ;)

EDIT: I'm guessing it's JetPackWilly?

It is JetPac. One of the first arcade shooters on the spectrum. It is a top 10 game from the Speccy archives..

Should not need much tidying up. the artwork has a slight glow around it that was in the original.

I dont use the magic wand either.

EDIT: ZX Spectrum

Funny that, because it IS a photo of a model ;) . Could you photoshop it a bit more "cartoony"?

Guessing you haven't heard that in America the word 'Pikachu' is being used as slang for a certain lady part?

Hadn't heard it either (must be a midwest thing). Maybe I should find out what part it is prior to saying I want it. :P

What the hell is wrong with Japanese people! I mean first they have those freaky games like "I'm Sorry", then they have children blow up toys where the kids jump in Pikachu's cuchie! Wait, I always assumed Pikachu was a boy...
