[Adultery]

I like SpyDIRman's idea of posting what everyone's using. Besides the fact that it will be a good reference tool, people can come to the forum and see what everyone is using and ask the appropriate forum member for help. 1) Arcade (Son's Room) : 27" RCA Standard TV, P4 3ghz, 2 Sidewinders Hacked into authentic HAPP arcade controls/buttons, Mario Themed cabinet art. Wireless network to Living Room for video. Proud of this one, built this from scratch, everything from the control panel to the pc components. No analog sticks, so those games have been removed from this system.

2) Living Room : 52" RCA HDTV, AMD X2 + 3TB NAS, 4 Wireless GameCube Controllers, 4 Wireless PS2 Controllers, 4 Analog TV tuners, 2 HD TV Tuners, 7.1 surround... this is use more for tv than games, unless dad is playing!

3) Van : Chrysler Town & Country : Integrated into factory monitor & sound, P4 1ghz (less power) 1 wireless Logitech wingman, 1 wireless xbox matcatz, 1 wireless gamecube, 1 wireless ps2, 1 sidewinder hacked into the steering wheel controls, wireless 802.11G to pull updates from Living room when in garage (or McDonalds hotspot!) Also, pushes GPS tracking information to home server via internet when passing public or open wifi hotspots (Don't steal this van, and don't lie to dad about where you are!). Bunch of other stuff, not directly related to GameEx.... New passion after completing the arcade box(es)

4) SUV : Hummer : Concept phase... Oh my, there is a lot of room inside this truck! Just how big a screen is too big for a car?

All these machines run GameEx and emulators from atari 2600 to playstation, the Arcade and Van use the multimedia features as well. Honestly, these projects have had more time spent with sawing / gluing / screwing / wiring / soldering than software config... Thanks to Tom and the respective emulator authors!

Heh well most are probably like me and after seeing your setup feeling their epenis just aren't up to bragging.

I knew I didn't have the fastest...but did figure I was on the upper end for storage...hehe till I seen your's...where I clearly got dwarfed.

Hehe HHD's 4 @ 750gig SATA II & 3 @ 500gig PATA 150 all seagate for 4.5 tb...hehe just no keeping up with the jones here.

I'm nearing 4tb of storage used...but some of that is media and not emulation.

Maybe someday I'll sit down and do a write up on my setup but I got to many projects going...mainly in GX alone.

LOL well if I lose a drive I lose it all...as its all in a softraid strip array...with no mirroring...heh so not very bright on my part.

I would imagine Zog is running raid5 or better...hopefully with a raid card of some sort.

Heh.. Promise 16 port SATA-2.. And yes, every drive that is in use I have an exact copy as well in storage as nothing on the emu drives change anyways, and majority of the games I own anyways.. So no need to worry about loss.. Complete Sega-CD, 3DO, CD-i and such is from ebay and friends.. Mame is from the mame community, and most of the roms, I have dumped myself with various hardware over the years before the "Good-Tools" existed. And this is just for my HTPC that has GameEx and ProgDVB.. Only thing I don't have a backup of is my PVR stuff, which is fine.. Most of it is just episodes of programs the wife watches.. I could care less about "Oprah"..

And NoLogic.. Ya should post your specs anyways.. No need to feel guilty if I have a little more than ya.. Been Emuing for too long! Still a great read to see what others are using for setups..

I got a DLink DNS-323 NAS box with 2 x 500 GB HDD's (great little device with built in Linux OS that you can even install a torrent client on). I set it up with Raid 0 (Striping) for speed but I only have a 100 MBit network so I was thinking (after it was too late) that I probably should have gone for JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) or standard (2 single drives). Since I'm using Raid 0 if I loose one drive I loose all data. I didn't go for Raid 1 (mirroring) because I wanted 1 Gig so the reason I went for Raid 0 is size and speed but when your limited by your network speed I probably made a mistake in that decision. Going JBOD or standard would have meant that if one drive failed I would still be able to recover the other drive. Since I'm limited by 100 MBit I doubt there would be a noticable speed difference than Raid 0. Of course really important data is always backed up but I'd spew if my NAS drive failed and I lost all that data.

The nas boxes are nice, but you would be only benefiting if it supported gigabit ethernet.. Even USB 2.0 drives are still slow as fu*k... Got 4 Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500's here and they are SLOW. I only use them for my MP3 library now for streaming music through the house.. And very rarely I add stuff to em, so, I now have a dedicated music server running on an old P4 1.8 that does my music streaming through a serial interface to the house..

Yeah I could have gone with building an old PC and using FreeNAS or Linux but I just thought it was a cool device and portable (no regrets). I didn't have a spare PC although I probably could have bought one for the same price as the NAS. It does have 1 gigabit capability so I've been debating whether or not I should upgrade my network to gigabit. But that would be a number of NIC's, routers, switches etc. etc. In the end it would end up being quite expensive to upgrade

Yup.. Just slowly do the transition to gigabit.. In the long run, it works great at 1000mbit as opposed to 100.. But you only notice the difference with copying large files.. Half my network is still 100 mbit for the PC's in the living room and in my home office. My gaming machine, HTPC, and my fileservers use gigabit tho. Lappy still uses just 54mbit as it has no support for n-draft 802.11.

Always happens with stuff like that. Don't feel bad. My Nvidia nForce 3 mobo isn't suppoprted by Vista lol.. Wanted to try Vista since I was a beta tester for it with MS Connect, and I had to use it on my lappy to be able to submit my bugs to get a free copy of her. lol.. And its still sitting on the HDD not burnt as I don't like it. lol...

That and Pro-Tools doesn't work in Vista so no go for me..
