Playfield Videos and Sounds

Hello,

I´m not sure what´s the best way (or maybe just my preferred settings) to include playfield previews in Pinballx . Therefore I would like to know how you handle your playfield previews.

1. What kind of media do you prefer (Images / Videos)? ...and why? (e.g. performance, optics, storage...)

2. If you use Videos:

2.1 Do you use Videos with integrated Sound?

2.2 Do you use Videos without Sound?

3. Do you integrate Sound to your "Images" / "Videos without sounds" via separated Audio files?

I´m asking, because normally I would prefer to use Videos with included Audio. But there are table where such files are not available.

So I went for the solution to add just for those Videos separated Audio files. But I´ve encountered that if PinballX is starting at a table where I did so, the Opening Audio file of PinballX will be delayed until the separated Audio file of that specific table has ended or until I switch to another table with integrated Audio. (I think if the Video uses integrated Audio the different Audio files may be overlayed while different separated Audio files can´t).

But on the other side I´ve encountered another effect: While for Videos with integrated Sound the Sound stops as soon as I start one of those tables... Those tables with separated Sound files play their Sound even during the Loading Screen of PinballX.

So currently I´m not really sure what is my preferred solution (and I don´t like mixing solutions anyway)...

How do you do your setup regarding the preview Videos?

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Kind regards,

Jannek

I generate my own video media using ffmpeg and a script that I have written.

Just to be flashy I prefer videos to static images, and (so far) I have not hit the limits on available storage. That would be the reason why I would use static images over video.

The script will capture audio as well, but I use PinballX previews as a kind of screen saver. I generally keep my cab on all the time. I don't want audio and I turn off the option in PinballX settings.

The script is meant to capture the table's attract sequence and most tables don't really have much in the way of audio while not in-play. If you must have audio and you don't mind that the audio track is not necessarily synced to anything happening on the table, then you might as well just grab the audio files that are here on this site.

Ok, thanks for your reply. I will have a closer look at your script. Thank you. Maybe I will think about the option of turning off the sound of the playfields... would make the setup easier (if I look for prepared videos). But on the other side: if you're also capturing the audio, maybe it's another idea to capture my own videos. That would also match my table more exact. Again: thanks for your suggestion!
