[RESOLVED] GameEx crashes when updating list

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a new computer that is far more powerful an AMD fx 8320 with R7 Graphics. I also am running my emulators on a second hard drive. In quite a few cases; the video's and sound seems to be really choppy. Also When I update the mame list it never completes (I left the computer on all night and it gets stuck at 55%. Does gameex work with AMD computers? That seems strange because AMD has been around a long time.

Also my new computer seems to be really loud are their inexpensive solutions to keep a computer cool and quiet?

Gameex crashes immediately after I open it. I was going to try to find the log for mame but it asks me to immediately update my list which hits 55% and after that nothing. I can't make any selections it starts to update the list and stops.

Yes, GameEx works great with AMD PCs, just not yours at present. Let's get a copy of your gameex.ini and log.txt files if you don't mind. Also, you will want to not run the full Catalyst Software Suite with the Gaming Evolved Client by Raptr as noted here. Since you have also reported GameEx crashing, you may want to download the installer from the site and manually install it over your current installation.

Please report back with your results and the requested files! Thanks!

Is that during verifying sets that it hangs at 55%?

A log file would also be helpful..

I didn't have the gaming evolved program loaded. Also I didn't try the Amd omega driver either but I could not get gameex to verify the roms correctly so I deleted it and will reinstall it and see what happens.

I have merged the two topics as I think the issue at hand is getting GameEx running first. At this point, I don't see that this is a MAME issue that needs to be reported separately. Please download and manually reinstall GameEx and provide copies of your gameex.ini and log.txt files. Thanks!

When you report back, could you let us know which version of MAME you are using.

Also, does switching between Fullscreen and Fullscreen Window make any difference?

Setup Wizard> Custom> Display Settings> Window/Fullscreen.

Try both settings with a GameEx reboot :)

I have installed GameEx on several computers and often it hangs at 55% so I used Alt enter to make the display smaller. Eventually I get supposedly that GameEx recognizes the roms and that most of them work. But when I start GameEx I only get the shooting games and nothing else is showing up in the list. If I run the update list I keep getting this same result?

I am using an AMD FX 8320 with Gameex I also turned off the AMD evolved watcher.

I installed GameEx on my Win8.1 AMD FX 8320 computer and it hangs at 55% which I then use Alt Enter to make the screen smaller and eventrually it tells me it found most of my roms. But when I rerun GameEx I only get the shooting games. What switches do I need to change. I have had this issue on another computer and there was a psot that explained how to fix it but I can't find it.

Thanks in advance.

I was able to get past 55% by hitting Alt Enter to shrink my screen size and then I got most Mame roms were recognized. but it is only finding the Gun games. Ho9w do I send you my log (where are they) and ini (I don'[t know what you mean?

Assuming you are running integrated MAME with GameEx

In the Advance Mame Settings

In the filter options:

Try turning off verify roms

Be sure to update

Don't confuse Advance Mame Settings and AdvanceMame. AdvanceMame is a totally different beast, and designed with specific users in mind.

Depending on your romset and MAME version, you could be seeing the carnevil bug, if so check Dazzles fix for 0.153

The log and the ini are both just text documents.

Browse to your working path, find them, open, cut and paste.

Have you turned off "Verify Roms"?

If you leave this enabled it checks each one to ensure it is correct. This isn't necessary, and will eliminate a large portion of your library.

Disable it and update

It seems like when I go into the configuration section that the first two screens go OK than I get sent back to the gameex config page and I have to re-enter the config section again and it never works right. I have encountered this before but can't remember how I fixed it. I tried installing Game ex in compatibility mode I'm using 8.1 8 but should I reinstall it in Win7 compatibility. I really like this program but the setups aren't smooth and I don't know why. I also turned AMD evolution off or does that not matter any more?
