jst0rm
Hello,I have built a seperate mame box out of a older hp slim computer. I tested gamex among others and like this one the best. I will purchase it if I can get it working on the box correctly.I did get it up and running on my main gaming computer but when I went to the hp it crashes when trying to load a game...I load mortal kombat and it gets to initializing with the white lines around the display then crashes back to gameex. I have attached what I beleive is the correct log file. The computer isnt online or any network so I have to shuttle a disk to get these files.the rig is a e8400 4gig ram 250gig drive intel video card with a x-arcade dual stick controller.Thank youlog.txt
hansolo77
Welcome aboard! I will try to help best I can. The first thing you should do is eliminate where the problem could be. Try running MAME directly and see if you get the ROM to load with it. If MAME loads but the ROM doesn't, the problem is the ROM. If MAME loads the ROM, the problem is with the configuration in GameEx. Experiment a little and see what you can come up with. A handy tool to use is in Start->All Programs->GameEx->Utilities called "Run Last Game". It runs the last command GameEx used to launch the game. That way you don't have to load GameEx up each time you try to troubleshoot. You can look at the contents of that in "C:\GameEx\DATA\runitgame.bat" or change C:\ to whatever drive you installed in, and open runitgame.bat in a notepad to see what it is typing out. You may have something simply mispelled. Try these things and get back to us!
nullPointer
Hi jst0rm and Welcome to the GameEx Forums!Han is right on track with this one. Further is you get so far as opening up the runitgame.bat file within notepad, try adding the word pause to the very end of the file, then save the file and try running it again. This way if MAME is experiencing an error the command window will stay open so that you can actually see what the error is. The How to Ask For Help thread has some detailed instructions on how to troubleshoot using runitgame.bat in this fashion (skip down to step 4).
jst0rm
ok thanks guys. I wasnt expecting responses so fast. I can get the rom to load in mame as stand alone. The controls are all messed up but I guess thats to be expected. Please excuse me as I am running back and forth between rigs.

jst0rm
I should be clear that this appears to happen with ALL roms.
jst0rm
ok I did a bit of trouble shooting. I removed the command line in the mame cfg for the x-arcade and the rom worked!-ctrlr X-ArcadeI think the problem is in this addition to the mame options under advanced mame settings? jst0rm
ok mame plus is working with its own ui. The controls all work correctly. If I add that line to the advanced settings in the set up wizard the games wont run. If I dont add it then the control mappings are messed up even with mame plus!Thank you
nullPointer
Did you try adding the word pause to the end of your runitgame.bat? This will likely allow you to see more information about the error being generated. Based on the runitgame.bat you posted the modification would look like this:@ECHO OFFchcp 65001C:CD "C:\MAME"mame64.exe mk -rompath "C:\MAME\roms" -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo -ctrlr X-ArcadepauseAfter adding a pause to the end of the file you would save it and double click the modified file to run it again. This will force the command window to remain open and allow you to take note of any errors being reported by MAME itself.Among other things it does not appear that you have GameEx configured to use MAME Plus. Is this intentional, or do you have multiple versions/flavors of MAME running? If it's the latter, are you running a matched ROM set for each of them? jst0rm
ok I think i figured everything out. Im updating because I hate when people post online with a quandry and never post the results for others. The issue for me was the fact that x-arcade cfg files come as either xarcade.cfg OR x-arcade.cfg I was trying to use the one with the - and the cfg in question didnt have a -One other question what is the difference bewtween gamex lite and gameex as a executable? nullPointer
One other question what is the difference bewtween gamex lite and gameex as a executable? My intuition tells me to go light...The decision between GameEx and GameEx Lite will largely depend on your goals and system setup. GameEx Lite is intended to be run purely as a MAME frontend. If you're only running MAME on your system, it's worth considering, but I generally like to run (a lot) more than just MAME.
