Problems with Steam/ MK9

Hey folks, its been a long while since I have posted here. For the most part I've gotten the hang of GameEx but now I've encountered a problem and I don't know how to approach the situation.

I recently got Mortal Kombat 9 for the PC and I really would like it to show up in my Emulator group I have for 4 player games.

Unfortunately (and infuriatingly) the PC disc makes me have to use Steam. Why it cant have a normal .exe like most games? I will never know. So now, I've tried using the link in my appdata folder to run it like I would with any other external application by putting the link in its own folder and setting the rompath and working path to that folder. It loads the game, the GameEx comes back up like it didnt load, but the game is still loading and opening up in the background.

So I tried to see if the Steam integration would work and GameEx just cant find the Mortal Kombat file.

Is it possible to have that game in my emulator group, or do I need a seperate list for the steam games (just Mortal kombat 9)?

Ive never used Steam before, but it seems Im forced to in this instance, so I really dont know how to configure it to work with GameEx, and with the setup wizard only looking for login information I'm lost.

What are you using for your command line when trying to run it individually? Unfortunately, if you purchase the game through Steam or if the game requires Steam to run, there is probably not much that can be done. Can you provide us with a copy of your log.txt file (post attempting to run the game) and your gameex.ini file?

Also, does the game use a launcher? Most fighters i know of use a launcher of some sort. This could be throwing GameEx. To quote yourself:

It loads the game, the GameEx comes back up like it didnt load, but the game is still loading and opening up in the background.

That is classic launcher behaviour

My command line i was using for that shortcut is just "[rompath]\[romfile]"

now the steam folder just does not have any games in it. seems the logs says there is, so im not sure why i dont see it in the steam menu in GE

I agree with DazzleHP. Most likely you will need to use an Advanced Config to watch for additional processes.

Glad you found a solution!

For what it's worth, i've found that having Steam launch with (or before) GameEx with automatic login through Steam itself, is the most compatible option, making sure that "Enable automatic login and logout" = No in GameEx. This will prevent GE from logging you out of (or into) Steam, leaving it always running in the background.
