Retroarch with GameEX

I'm not too sure I'm following you, but isn't RetroArch targeted specifically for Android/Mobile Device platforms? You might be able to run it through a separate Android emulator, but ... yeah that seems like it would be a ton of work (if it worked at all), especially when there excellent Genesis emulators already available specifically for Windows. I highly recommend giving Fusion a try if you haven't already.

Hi

yesterday I was battling all day to run retroarch in gameex with no results. I use RetroArch-v1.0.0.2-64-bit version. Retroarch have frontend in itself via you can load different systems and games and most importantly have the best shaders which can emulate really well the crt rgb look of 240p games (IMO better than HLSL in mame), but the frontend itself is a lot worse than gameex. So it is really important for me to be able to use it in gameex. I want to be able to load retroarch already configured eith specific system (it is called core in retroarch). I tried to point to retroarch.exe and used commands that supposedly work with hyperspin like:

"retroarch -L libretro-git-snes9x-next-x86_64.dl game.rom" or "-f -D -L libretro-git-snes9x-next-x86_64.dll "%rom%""

When I make shortcut to retroarch exe and set this parameters in shortcut properties it work flawless, but when I try it in Gameex It just put me back to gameex or I get retroarch error window and then go back to gameex. Please help.

this is my command line for retroarch: retroarch.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -c stella_libretro.dll.cfg -f

be aware that you need to configure your GenesisPlus IN Retroarch in that way, that you have a working config-file in Retroarch. my commandline above is for Stella, the atari 2600 emulator. In addition I have put the ".cfg" file into the root folder of Retroarch. Normally it would be found in the "autoconfig" folder.

It is very important that your GenesisPlus config works inside Retroarch. If it does, than you need to save this under "Save New Config" inside of Retroarch. Then you just need to grab this config file and put it in the root folder of Retroarch and use my commandline. exchange "stella_libretro.dll.cfg" with the name of your config file and you should be ready to go.

I agree with you, that Retroarch has the best shaders ever made... I love them too :) . If they build in a option for resolution switching, it will be perfect. I can only highly recommend to check out this incredible frontend. For Atari 2600 and SNES systems, it uses the best cores available for those systems, unlike the cheesy MESS-stuff which is pretty useless comparing to Retroarch.

It works in the same way for MAME too..... BUUUUUT then you will need to setup MAME as a seperate Emulator like i.e. a SNES or Atari setup inside of the setup-wizard of GameEx. I cannot recommend to do this, as you will loose ALL the nice features GameEx have to offer for official MAME versions or derivates like MAME UI FX and so on. You will NOT have a Historyfile or Highscore saves or Cheats etc.

GameEx MAME features highly depends on the official build / sources of MAME or it derivates ( which use the official sources too). Thats why you have all the nice stuff and this is the way how it works. Retroarch however is just using only the core of MAME, missing important stuff, which GameEx needs to create the magic. If you take a close look, you will see that the core is a little bit old (v0.151). So lets say the MAME-developers are putting out a new version, you will need to wait until the Retroarch-developers are making a new core for MAME, which is the reason why I am not using Retroarch for MAME stuff.

[REDACTED]

Now you think "how bad, i cant use the cool shaders on MAME, or if I do, i will sacrifice a lot of the nice features MAME normally has". You really think that the Retroarch-Shaders are better than the HLSL settings in MAME? I think, you have not seen good examples of HLSL. If you are really into shaders and want some good HLSL results and you understand english well, than I recommend to take a look here:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45026&start=330

scroll a little bit down and take a close look on the INIcreator v0.3 of user NUeda. Sadly we havent heard of NUeda a long time and the links to his great tool are dead meanwhile, buuuut you are here in one of the best forums ever seen :D and I attached you this tool at the end of this post. Read the instructions carefully in my provided link above and be ready to see some stunning HLSL results inside of MAME. If all goes well, you will have independent HLSL settings for over 50 systems.

As I am a lazy ass, I hope you can do this all alone, as you should do a little effort too ;) Hope you understand this. It took me months to research, accomplish and collect all this stuff and besides this, it cannot be that hard for you now :) .

Hope, I could help and happy HLSL. Best wishes, u-man.

Since this is getting into the realm of gossipy, dirty laundry of other teams/individuals outside of GameEx, off-topic, and most importantly, not of benefit to the OP or our commiunity, I am hiding the offending posts. Hate to do this but it does not serve our community in the GameEx forums well at all.

You're welcome. You never know what may show up in a search online or who may be a member under another alias here. There is enough unnecesary drama in the other retrogaming forums and no need for any to be brought here even unintentionally. I am sure you will agree. ;)

I have one more question - would it be possible to first configure standard mame in gameex, prepare all the configuration, create gamelist and after everything will work ok, just replace path from standard mame to retroarch, with some command line to work with mame core? I almost got my ideal setup, I lack only possibility to use retroarch mame version with all nice feature that standard mame comes in gameex.
