For some reason gameex has stopped displaying all my games. I can view them all in mame, just not in gameex.

I even deleted gameex and replaced it with a former saved version and its doing the same thing. It shows all my games, then asks me to update, and then approx 180 are missing.

so it points towards a mame issue BUT I can see all my games in mame.

any ideas?

GameEx is full of filtering options, and this is good for users like me who don't wont to have every clone\bugged\majong\not working game in the list. The most common reason for this behaviour is that some sort of filtering is enabled. Check your options with the Setup Wizard (under MAME settings).

But if you mean that, just after upgrading, approx. 180 of your games went lost, most probably there is a bug in GameEx...

Anyway, it's always a good thing to attach your GameEx.ini (zipped) and GameEx.log, so that we can see directly what's goin' wrong in your setup.
Please, post these files.

Regards,
Alpha.

peterson65 - what version of GameEx are you running? There were some changes in GameEx that allowed for display of more than 10000 MAME ROMS a few months ago.

If you are updated to the latest version of GameEx, try running an Update List from within it and see if the number changes. If not, please submit a copy of your gameex.ini so we can take a peek.

Try setting MAME up as an emulator. If all your games show up that way its either in the rom audit or your filter settings.

GameEx hides and filters out mechanical games. That is why. The games are unplayable and likely never will be playable in MAME. They are not video games. They are games like whack a mole, slot machines and pinball machines. They won't ever be in GameEx unless something big changes with the emulation.

Now everything is clear... and I agree whith the decision to hide those games, since I like to have my list as clean as possible (like everyone else, I suppose), and it would be completely pointless to have those games in the list... If other FE blindly show them... well it's their limit...

is there any way to find out what those mechanical games are? because if they dont work i dont want them taking up space on my harddrive that i could be using for other emulators and i dont want to re-download them as a set again.

ROMLister is a great little application designed to do exactly this. In order to extract the mechanical games using ROM Lister it might be easier to filter on what games will work, and subsequently remove those that don't by process of elimination (Interestingly I don't think ROMLister has a filter setting for mechanical games, but I've never tried).

There are some tutorials over at the BYOAC wiki that may help to get you started: RL Tutorials

Also on the administrative front: please do be aware that discussion of downloading roms is strictly verboten around here. I think your post is probably OK (I'm not a mod), but it never hurts to mention it.
